For most of 2014, Grand Theft Auto V developer RockStar Games has teased a new online co-operative mode called Heists, but rumors say that we still may not see the feature until next year.

In April of this year, Rockstar began teasing a "Spring 2014" release for its Heists downloadable content. "Coming this spring to Grand Theft Auto Online, team up with your most trusted Crew members or with random other mercenaries in Grand Theft Auto Online to pull off cooperative Heist Missions for glory and profit," the developer said on its website. "We know many in the GTA Online community have been looking forward to this update - stay tuned for much more information to come."

But Spring came and went, as did Summer, and eager GTA V fans are still waiting for this co-op mode that's said to bring a whole new level to the online play of the GTA world.

A leaked report from the Official Xbox Magazine and YouTuber Domislive back in June gave further details on what we can expect with the DLC. Eight mission types were listed, including Territory Takeover, where players fight for control over a specific area, and an escort mission known only as Funeral where players must accompany a lieutenant's funeral procession through town while fighting off rival gangs.

There are several theories as to why Rockstar has delayed Heists so long, but official word in a June Gamespot interview states that the company is still working on making the content the best they can. "We are very sorry for the delay, and are working hard to bring them to you as soon as we can," Rockstar said. "Please know that we are focused as always on making the best possible content for you to play and we are thankful to all of you for your patience, understanding, and support."

One theory is that the recent legal battle with actress Lindsay Lohan has thrown a monkeywrench in development. Lohan sued the developer and the publisher, claiming that her likeness was used in the game without her permission. The suit is still ongoing, but Rockstar has countersued for court fees and reputation damage on what they call a baseless legal battle.

Today marks 400 days since GTA Online was released, and some anxious fans have even created a tongue-in-cheek website to tell if and when the promised Heists DLC will drop.

GTA V is already released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but is coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 18, and also launching for the PC on January 27 of next year.
