Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day NFL game starts at 9:30 a.m. PT (12:30 p.m. ET) on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013. The (5-5-1) Packers will be visiting the (6-5) Lions at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Packers vs. Lions game can be watched online for free through live stream (more information below).

While Thanksgiving day football has become a big part of this holiday, there is an interesting back story. Since the year that Lions were founded in 1934, Detroit have claimed a spot in every year's Thanksgiving Day football. Meanwhile, Cowboys joined the tradition to play on Thanksgiving in the 1966 season. As football has become a big part of this holiday, NFL has used since 2006 to rotate different teams in besides the Lions and Cowboys. This year, Dallas will host the visiting Oakland Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers will take on their rival Baltimore Ravens in prime time.

As NFL continues into Week 13, Packers' starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a broken collarbone on Nov. 4, has returned to practice on Tuesday, but Green Bay's coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Tuesday that Rodger's chances of playing are "close to none," according to NFL.com. Rodgers is expected to rest until Week 14 match against the Atlanta Falcons.

Meanwhile, the Packers' newly signed backup quarterback Matt Flynn has put together a comeback from down 23-7 to tie the Vikings in overtime on Sunday, but that leaves Packers a half game behind the Lions and the Bears in the NFC North. Flynn's plays came only after backup QB Seneca Wallace went down in injury and Scott Tolzien struggled to make plays. It is most likely that Flynn will be put to work on Thanksgiving as the restless Rodgers watches from the sideline.

According to Sports Illustrated, Flynn put down 480 yards and six touchdowns in the game against Lions on January 1, 2012 But will Flynn be able to take full advantage of running back Eddie Lacy, who has six touchdowns and 806 years, and wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who has seven touchdowns with 947 yards, to break Lion's defense?

While the Packers is ranked 2nd in total yards and 5th in pass yards and 5th in rush yards per game on average in the league. The Lions are doing about the same in being ranked 5th in total yards, 3rd in pass yards, but 22nd in rush yards. Green Bay trail behind Detroit at No. 8th spot in total points per game on average in the league.

The closeness in stats also brings up the question of whether Packers can continue performing at the level they were before when Rodgers was still leading the game.

Lions' quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has 24 passing touchdowns at 3,495 yards, and wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who has 11 touchdowns with 1,198 yards, will also be looking to win the home game, especially during this special day that has been part of the teams' tradition.
