Microsoft made a big announcement for Halo 5 players on Thursday. The developer revealed the action-packed shooter game lands on Windows 10 this year. Not only that, it will be a free download with features specifically design for PC users. Here's what is known about Halo 5: Guardians PC release date, features and rumors on the web.

Xbox One users can play Halo 5: Guardians with a campaign and multiplayer modes. However, the PC version of the game will offer only limited features. Microsoft said they will bring the game's Forge mode to Windows 10, including a bunch of PC-centric tools for making maps.

Forge is a map-creation tool that gives players a chance to make their own Halo content. Up to now, the tool is only available on Xbox One consoles.

The map editor tool for PC may not satisfy some gamers, but it's still pretty neat. Also, PC users can finally use Halo 5′s map-building software, and they can create maps more efficiently than Xbox One users.

According to VG247, the map-editing tool has keyboard and mouse support.  This feature will allow players to use keyboard & mouse for more precision and control in creating new contents. Players can also edit maps in a 4k resolution.

Furthermore, they can work with friends to build, test and play new maps. Forgers can develop their new creation on Windows 10, and then play it on Xbox One. Gaming analysts say this feature will definitely open countless new experiences for players as they can share their creations all over the world.

By releasing a free content on Windows 10, "it gives the chance to anyone who wants to jump in and try their hands at building a cool new map for Halo 5," according to Tom French of 343 Industries. 343 Industries is the developer of Halo 5: Guardians.

The game developer also revealed its plans for Halo 5 Xbox One version in the coming months. Players can expect new environments, advanced file sharing capabilities, new pieces, palettes, props and more.

Meanwhile, Erik Kain of Forbes gave some interesting predictions about Halo 5 PC version. He claims the forthcoming mapmaker for PC may be Microsoft's way to test waters and generate hype to players. So, the Halo 5 is absolutely coming to Windows 10 as a full game.

As for the release date of Halo 5: Guardians on PC, Microsoft has not yet given any specific details. However, it might become available in the fourth quarter of the year.
