Head of Nigerian Church Threatens Split Over Gay Bishop

The ongoing controversy over electing a gay bishop in the Church of England may soon lead to a schism in the Worldwide Anglican Communion and sever ties with churches around the world.

Archbishop Peter Jasper Akinola, Primate of the Nigerian Church, with 17 million members, warned that the Nigeriah Church will sever its ties with the Church if Jeffrey John was appointed as Bishop of Reading.

"We cannot continue to be in communion with people who have taken a step outside the biblical boundaries," said Archbishop Akinola, who sees the appointment as a "satanic attack on the Church of God."

The reaction to the liberalism in Western Churches are causing serious problems throughout the worldwide church community as many oppose and threaten to separate.
