HTC Vive VR Headset Shipped, Users' Review Complain about Notable Flaws; Price and Specs

HTC VIVE
HTC Vive is released on April 5

The first batch of HTC Vive headset has been shipped to customers around the globe. However, some users complain about the device's messy setup process. Now, here's the latest news about HTC Vive availability, specs and customer reviewers.

On April 5, HTC has successfully shipped many VR headsets to customers who pre-ordered the device. For several customers from Europe, the company said the device will arrive in the region very soon. Good thing, the Vive did not have the same production problems as the Rift, which had component shortage and shipping delays.

Compare to Oculus Rift ($600), HTC Vive ($800) gives users a full-room virtual reality experience. Users can physically explore different worlds rather than merely look around them. Also, the device gives a convincing and immersive VR environment. However, there are complains about the installation of the device.

First, users have to decide what sort of VR experience they want. They can opt for a stationary, where they simply sit in a chair while watching the VR images just like in Rift or Gear VR. But most of the users want to have the room-scale function of the device, that's why they paid extra $200 for the unit. So, they need to have a clear area between five and 15 square feet.

After that, users have to get a ladder to position and mount the two sensors on opposite walls. These two sensors draw the virtual reality world and give a visual warning if a user is about to walk into a wall. When the sensors are already in position, the next step is a simple process of connecting the headset to a powerful PC. Then use the controls to map out the area.

Overall, buyers should spend about an hour to set-up the HTC Vive.

According to Fortune, there are also complains about the weight of the Vive's headset. It is heavy because most of its hardware is tucked up there.

On another hand, a review from Business Insider says HTC Vive "delivers the strongest virtual reality experience" on the market today. In addition, the gadget offers motion control and gives a riveting VR experience.

There are also built-in games in HTC Vive. Buyers can play Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives, #selfietennis and Fantastic Contraption in a virtual reality setting. Compare to Rift that is more grounded in traditional gaming, the games on Vive provides more immersive gaming experience.
