Huawei Ascend Mate 7 Release Date: Leaks Reveal Chinese Phone's Powerful Specs For Low Price

In days leading up to the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 debut, social media has seen an increase of photo leaks purportedly showing the new device.

Admittedly, the Chinese brand has been largely overshadowed by mainstream brands such as Samsung, HTC, Sony, and Apple. Over the years however, Huawei has carved a niche for itself as a purveyor of basic-but-cheap smartphones that are unlocked. Consumers will find a number of Huawei devices over at the Amazon online store. Depending on the model, prices generally range between $80 to $200 USD.

The latest Ascend Mate 7 smartphone will be appearing one day before IFA 2014 on Sept. 4, during a special event hosted by Huawei. So far, most of the buzz for the new phone has been centered around social media based in China. This comes as no surprise considering the phone's Chinese origins. However, there is a likelihood the device is eventually coming to the U.S. market.

Recently, GforGames reposted a Sina-Weibo posting showing images of an alleged Ascend Mate 7. The photos show a device with a fingerprint sensor and smooth case. A number of observers have pointed that the phone resembles the HTC One M8, at least in appearance.

It is generally agreed in the Chinese rumor mill that the Ascend Mate 7 may have a massive 6.1-inch display with 1080p resolution. For photographing, the handset may have a 12-megapixel camera.

Regarding performance, the Ascend Mate 7 may include Huawei's proprietary Kirin 920 octa-core processor. Other rumors suggest that the device will have 2 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. Considering that Huawei devices tend to sell for cheap, the Ascend Mate 7 price is not likely to exceed that of major flagship smartphones. Even so, the Chinese device seems to have decent specs - albeit on paper.

IFA 2014 is scheduled to be held on Sept. 5 thru 10 in Berlin, Germany.
