iOS 8.2, 8.3 Jailbreak Update Dead, iOS 8.4 Jailbreak Awaits Release Date and More

Jailbreaking for iOS.
San Francisco-based security expert expects the Apple iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak will be released sometimes in June.

Chances for an iOS 8.2 and 8.3 jailbreak update is looking slim, just as the iOS 8.4 release date is drawing near. A number of Apple watchers believe that iOS 9 will be featured at this year's WWDC conference. Like previous iOS updates, the upcoming operating system is expected to be available on iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, and iPad 3.

Earlier, Pangu and TaiG promised an iOS 8.02 jailbreak ahead of the iOS 8.3 debut. When iOS 8.2 jailbreak failed to materialize, both groups said they were working on iOS 8.3. Once again, the iOS 8.3 jailbreak failed to see public release.

Currently, jailbreak fans are stuck on iOS 8.1.2 OS. Apple has also prevented users from downgrading to that version of iOS 8.

iOS 8.4 Jailbreak Possible?

According to iOS watcher iCrackUriDevice, Pangu and TAIG may have moved onto iOS 8.4 in order to ensure the longevity of the next jailbreak. The observer also pointed out that Apple is putting more priority on the new iOS 9, which may feature at the 2015 Worldwide Developers Conference.

Theoretically, Apple may decide to overlook the existence of iOS 8.4 jailbreak. However, the commentator was quick to point out that Apple may decide to patch iOS 8.4 at any time. If this were to happen, jailbreak communities may suffer yet another setback.

So far, only the beta 1 version of iOS 8.4 has been jailbroken. In April, notorious jailbreaker Stefan Esser showed off his jailbroken iOS 8.4 OS beta 1 in a video posted on YouTube. Often going by the screen name iOn1c, Esser is a controversial figure within jailbreak circles due to his habit of teasing jailbreak achievements on social media. Naturally, he declined to publically share his more recent jailbreak.

When will iOS 9 Be Out?

The iOS 9 release date will be dependent on the iOS 8.4 launch cycle. In other words, Apple will need to release iOS 8.4 first. As of now, Apple has not confirmed an iOS 8.4 roll out schedule.

Currently, iOS 8.4 is at beta 3. This latest release includes the redesigned music app, which is home to Apple's new Beats Music streaming service. Beta 3 also has a Mini player and revamped iTunes Radio.

Upon release, iOS 8.4 is also expected to address a number of bugs in Apple's previous iOS 8.3 operating system. The upcoming OS may be announced alongside iOS 9 and OSX 10.11 at WWDC 2015, according to 9to5Mac. Still, this prediction may or may not pan out when WWDC begins on June 8.
