iOS 9.1 Update: Apple To Skip iOS 9.0 for iPad Pro & Release It With iOS 9.1 Installed

Recent reports suggest that the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Pro will not be coming along with the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus this September. Its launch is now believed to be scheduled during an October event instead and will tag along interesting feature-the giant iPad will reportedly run Apple's unreleased iOS 9.1 firmware.

According to details provided by analytics firm AppSee, the iPad Pro will come with a screen resolution of 2732 x 2048. When MacRumors asked them about the iOS version the device will be powered with, AppSee claims that it is indeed running iOS version 9.1.

This information indicates that the Cupertino-based company is developing the next iteration of its iOS 9.0 software alongside a new iPad model. It also means that the iPad Pro will most likely be absent during the rumored September 9 where iOS 9 is expected to be released together with new flagship iPhone and a next-generation Apple TV.

For those who have not been following Apple's moves lately, the tech giant previously teased iOS 9 during its annual WWDC 2015 event a couple of months ago in San Francisco. Back then, Apple shared that the upcoming mobile software will feature a more intelligent Siri, an improved Spotlight, and more features for a better multitasking experience, among others.

Skipping iOS 9.0 is a pretty bold move for Apple. However, it will still be a plausible strategy if it does launch a giant 12.9-inch iPad. Once released, the purported iPad Pro model will be larger than the 12-inch MacBook laptop. The above-mentioned 2732 x 2048 resolution will result to a sharp 263ppi pixel density.

Speaking of multitasking and productivity, a larger display means that the upcoming iPad is aimed toward business-inclined users. Earlier rumors claimed that the iPad Pro, despite its wide display, will have the following dimensions: 305.3 x 220.8 x 7mm. At 7mm, it's just one millimeter thicker than the current iPhone 6.

Perhaps to further boost its appeal to business users, Apple is also speculated to accompany the large tablet with a Force Touch-enabled stylus. This is hinted earlier this year by renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who cited several patents filed by Apple suggesting an ongoing development for the said hardware accessory.

Lookin at Apple's history of releasing iPhones and iPads, an October event would be a safe bet. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro will be the company's first major overhaul of its iPad line in years after launching the iPad Mini back in 2012. It's also seen as a crucial move for the tech giant to invigorate its declining iPad sales.
