iPhone 6s or iPhone 7 Release Date: Unveiling Event on September 9th; Will iOS 9 be Jailbroken?

Apple may showcase new devices at an invited-only conference on September 9th at 9am PST in San Francisco. Devices rumored to be unveiled include the iPhone 6s - also dubbed 'iPhone 7' by gossip circles. The handset is believed to be Apple's replacement for the current iPhone 6.

iPhone 6s May Not Be Released in September

It is unlikely that the iPhone 6s will be launched immediately. Apple usually hosts such events to feature new products before they are released on the market. Also, there is a possibility that the iPhone 6 successor may not show up at all. Nothing is confirmed at this moment.

Invites for the event were sent via Siri. This is perhaps a move to promote the company's latest personal assistant service that comes free with every Apple mobile device.

Apple Plans to Live Stream the Event

Though not everyone can show up to the event, Apple will live stream the September event live via iPhone, iPad or iPod. Users of OS X operating systems can access the live stream on Safari 6.0.5 or later. The OS X version used has to be v10.8.5 or later.

Also, Apple is allowing Windows 10 owners to stream the event on their PCs. This is curious considering Apple's longstanding rivalry with Microsoft.

iOS 9 May Be Jailbroken

Meanwhile, jailbreaking team TaiG has vowed to jailbreak Apple's upcoming iOS 9 operating system. Earlier, TaiG team jailbroke iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4 OS. Apple later released iOS 8.4.1, which addressed security exploits that allowed TaiG to jailbreak iOS 8.4.

In yet another cat-and-mouse game, iOS 9 may make jailbreaking more difficult. Earlier, a number of Apple watchers predicted that iOS 9 may spell the end of jailbreak. This assessment was based on the widely touted Rootless security feature. The apparatus apparently blocks access to certain protected files, regardless whether the user enjoys administrative-level clearance.

Even so, TaiG seems unfazed and promised to released iOS 9 jailbreak shortly after the impending iOS 9 launch.

At this time, Apple has not confirmed a release date for iOS 9 - which recently debuted at this year's WWDC conference. Even so, the general consensus amongst Apple watchers is that iOS 9 will be ready by Fall 2015.

iOS 9 features improvements that include expanded Apple Pay, smarter Siri personal assistant, new Apple News apps, and updated Apple Maps.

Happily, diehard fans can trial the upcoming iOS firmware via a public beta that starts in July. However, interested parties will need to signup with Apple first before participating in the testing program. Beta testers will also get a chance to trial OS X El Capitan as well.
