The recently unveiled iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung’s flagship phone, the Galaxy Note 7, have been pitted against each other in terms of various specs and features. This time, a drop test was carried out to determine the phones’ resilience as these devices are not entirely resistant to humans’ ineptness in handling devices.

Against a block of concrete, PhoneBuff previously tested the two phones and the results that came up were that the iPhone 7 Plus easily passed the test while the Note 7 was certainly lagging behind.

Now, another test has been carried out to set the record straight and it seemed that Apple’s latest smartphone took the first round.

The iPhone 7 Plus and Galaxy Note 7 were first dropped with their screen facing upwards. The Note 7 remained fully functional and robust despite its glass-coated form. However, the cracks on the bottom of its rear glass were noticeable, giving iPhone 7 Plus this round.

Apple’s device was not necessarily in perfect condition after several hissing noises, although it did sustain less damage with its aluminum rear housing. As such, it was deemed as more durable compared to the Note 7.

For the second round, the devices were dropped in a portrait position with their bottom part the first to hit the concrete. Both bounced after the impact, which brought on more damage.

While the iPhone 7 Plus gained a couple more scratches in its bottom, the Note 7 had to go through even more cracks. The back of the Apple device remained the same but Samsung’s flagship phone already had a few cracks running through. Again, the iPhone 7 Plus won this round

Next, the phones were dropped on their side; as both of the devices come with 7000 series aluminum bands, they only suffered a few scrapes. There had been no major damage on the iPhone 7 Plus and the Note 7.

In the fourth round, the devices were dropped with their screens down, which is typically the most damaging incident to phones. Landing on their screens, the iPhone 7 Plus and Note 7 both had theirs shattered. Nonetheless, both screens remained fully functional, making it a tie.

After these tests, it was clear that the iPhone 7 Plus won the rounds. However, PhoneBuff had another bonus round.

In a separate video, the Galaxy Note 7 was able to survive 50 more drops with their screens down. Meanwhile, the iPhone 7 was also subjected to the same number of drops and, after the ninth one, the device had already suffered breakage through the housing, which covered the front camera.

In the tenth drop, the iPhone 7 Plus stopped functioning, although the home button still worked.

In PhoneBuff’s disclaimer, they did say that the situations the devices were subjected through had been extreme and forceful, which, when done repeatedly, are not often similar to typical real-world incidents.
