Monday's Apple event has come and gone with still no mention of the 6th generation iPod Touch in sight, but iPod Touch fans aren't giving up until Apple gives the official word on the device's future.

New iPod Touch models have traditionally launched every other year around September. When this last September passed with no mention of the media player, some experts speculated that Apple just wanted to dedicate all of its attention to the launch of the more popular iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Since then, the focus has changed to the Apple Watch and the new MacBook, which were both revealed in more detail during Monday's Spring Forward event, but the iPod Touch 6 was still mysteriously absent.

The Christian Post is reporting that the iPod Touch 6's release may have been postponed even further due to supply issues. But some are concerned that we never actually see another iteration of the iPod Touch at all.

The Apple Watch, being the ultra portable gadget that it is, may have just replaced the iPod Touch as the premiere media device, but Apple has yet to confirm one way or the other.

CNet penned an article describing the things that we didn't see at the Spring Forward event, and in it, the publication shares our thoughts. "All of the iPods are getting long in the tooth. The iPod Nano seventh-gen and the fifth-gen iPod Touch were introduced in September of 2012. (The Touch got a price drop in June 2014.) The fourth-gen Shuffle debuted in September of 2010 and the Classic (last upgraded from 120GB to 160GB in September of 2009) was officially dropped from the line late last year. No new iPods were introduced today, and it's unclear if we'll see them updated later this year -- or at all. (The Apple Watch, after all, is supposed to be able to store some music.)"

But if the iPod Touch 6 is coming, you can bet that it will be the best one yet. Rumors are circulating that the newest iPod Touch will not only sport the same hardware we've come to love in the iPhone 6, but it will also feature a larger "Plus" version, similar to the iPhone 6 Plus. That means we may see a 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch version sporting five different colors: silver, blue, red, pink, space grey, and yellow.

Other expected specs include 1 GB of RAM (expandable to 128 GB), the improved A8 processor, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, an 8-megapixel camera in the back, the newly launched iOS 8.2, and a price point between $250 and $300.

The Master Herald is speculating that we may see the iPod Touch 6 this coming September, which would make sense if Apple is looking to stick with a fall release, even if it is a year later than normal. But f Apple will want to spread its product line that thinly across the year, we'll have to wait and see. For now, the iPod Touch line has not been officially sheltered, so there's still hope.
