New iPod Touch 6th Generation Release Date 2015: Fans Still Hoping For Fall Launch

iPod Touch 6

Though Apple's iPod Touch 6th Generation failed to materialize last year, the rumor mill continues to speculate a September 2015 release date. Initially, the iPod Touch 6 was expected to be introduced in September 2014, which is a little less than two years after the iPod Touch 5th Generation was launched. Since then, speculation has shifted toward a possible 2015 release schedule.

One idea explored upon in a recent article by Phil Moore of the Stabley Times suggested that Apple held off on launching the iPod 6th Generation to wait on developing the iPhone 6S. Moore also argued that some of the iPhone 6S's hardware will show up in the next iPod Touch device. The iPhone 6S may start hitting shelves later this year. Naturally, there has not been an official statement that can back up Moore's assessment.

When the iPod Touch 5 price began dropping last year, iPod Touch 6th Generation rumors became rampant. The basis of the rumors was because price reduction usually preceded the imminent release of new Apple products. Instead, Apple CEO Tim Cook failed to make any mention of the fabled device at the first 2015 quarterly financial call in February.

A simpler explanation for the iPod Touch 5th generation price drop is due to the diminishing demand, which is reflected in declining iPod sales. Even so, the iPod continues to be beloved by users who want access to music/video files without needing smartphones, which are usually tied to expensive mobile service contracts.

"I'm limping along with my adored 4th generation Touch and no way am I going to replace it with gen 5. But the day generation 6 becomes available I'll be one of the first in the door to buy one," a reader from GottaBeMobile wrote. "My Touch serves me fine, I just want an update and more memory and faster processing and a much better camera."

Regarding specs, there is no official information available. Price rumors range from $250 to $300 on a variety of sites. It has also been speculated that the device will come in 32 GB and 64 GB versions. The iPhone Touch 6th Gen may come in space gray, orange, green, pink, red, or silver.

Other rumors state that the device will be waterproofed and sport a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. It is not clear if the iPod Touch 6th Gen will have a camera. Still, a number of gossip sites have suggested that it will sport an 8-megapixel camera.

Naturally, all information regarding the iPod Touch 6th Generation is unconfirmed and should be taken with a grain of salt.
