The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence will receive a whopping $20 million dollars for his role in Sony's much-awaited sci-fi flick The Passenger while his co-star, Chris Pratt of Jurassic World will earn a hefty $12 million dollars. The Passenger due to release in 2016,  Hollywood Reporter said.

Reports indicated that the Oscar-winning actress will earn the exceptional amount against 30 percent of the profit after the big budgeted movie breaks even.

According to Tribute.ca, "The Passengers is the story of a group of people on a mission to a far distant planet. When a man wakes up from his cryogenic sleep over 60 years early, he decides to wake a woman up to keep him company. While on their journey through space the two find romance and comfort with each other."

It is said that the film's production budget is estimated to reach $150 million and is set to begin its shooting on September, putting pressure on Pictures to quickly start the ball rolling.

Reports said that Sony Pictures' new motion picture chairman Tom Rothman has initially disapprove of paying talents such huge amount and has initially planned on shelving the movie in favor of Jeff Robinov's nascent Studio 8. However, Sony insiders believe Rothman had a change of heart after signing Lawrence and Pratt, two of the current biggest draws in Hollywood in terms of box-office hits.

Meanwhile, Lawrence and Bradley Cooper will team up for the fourth time in the biographical comedy-drama movie Joy, about Joy Mangano, the woman who invented the Miracle Mop. This will also be the third time Lawrence and Cooper will join director David O. Russell in a movie.

The movie will be officially released on December 25, 2015. It will star Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert DeNiro, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, Viginia Madsen and Edgar Ramirez. 'Joy' is directed by David O Russell based on a story he co-wrote with Annie Mumolo.

Joy is based on the true story of Joy Mangano who dreamt big at a time when women are not supposed to remain as house makers tending to the needs of the family. But Joy's grit and determination allowed her to overcome all the challenges and society's stereotype at that time.

Lawrence gained international fame for playing heroine Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games film series (2012-15), which established her as the highest-grossing action heroine as of 2015. She starred in David O. Russell's romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook (2012), for which she won a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Academy Award for Best Actress, becoming the second-youngest Best Actress Oscar winner. For her supporting role in Russell's comedy-drama American Hustle (2013), she won a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award, and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
