Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis on Wednesday received the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) President's Award for her unwavering commitment to Christian values in spite of government and media opposition. Davis was honored in Nashville, Tenn., at Proclaim 16 - the NRB International four-day Christian Media Convention of thousands of Christian communicators. Davis gained international attention after defying a federal court order requiring that she issue marriage licenses following the U.S. Supreme Court decision that supported same-sex marriages.

"I stand as one, but 'we' are many, and we can make a difference," said Davis, as she gestured to NRB attendees.

NRB consists of broadcasters, producers, writers, publishers, congregational managers, pastors, artists and religious-oriented consultants.

Liberty Counsel chairman and founder Mat Staver stood with Davis at the podium in solidarity for the First Amendment and Free Speech. He served as Davis' attorney during the legal debacle that followed after Davis refused to issue marriage licenses.

"I'm thankful for Jesus Christ for transforming lives," said Staver. "What you see before you is a woman whose life was transformed by Jesus, and she will not be unfaithful to our Lord, and that's why she was there."

Staver said Davis was an encouragement to him and everyone about "how God can transform a life and use it incredibly beyond what you can imagine, ask or think."

"That's the story of Kim Davis," said Staver.

Jerry Johnson, NRB president and chief executive officer, presented Davis the award, saying the "joy of the Lord oozes out of her."

Following Davis' presentation, Michael W. Smith performed and Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren delivered a message at the worship service held on Wednesday night, reports The Gospel Herald.
