Square Enix has such a huge franchise with the decades-old and complex world of Kingdom Hearts.  There has been a new trailer for another "decimal point" mid-quel with Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue.  The game is meant to set the stage for Kingdom Hearts 3, which really needs to get its final release date announced, possibly at E3 2016.

According to Entertainment Weekly, there is a new trailer out for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue.  The trailer can be viewed below, and most who are familiar with the franchise will recognize some of the gameplay.  Within the trailer is footage from Kingdom Hearts Dream, Drop, Distance HD, as well as Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2: A Fragmentary Passage

In part three of this trailer, there is some insight in Kingdom Hearts X: Back Cover, the video companion piece to the recent Kingdom Hearts Unchained X.  That game does not include the protagonist Sora and his friends as playable characters, there is a lot of backstory given on this game.  The people in masks are the five council members representing different clans with Vulpes, Unicornis, Anguis, Leopardos, and Ursus.

There is a lot of talk of a "traitor", and this possible traitorous figure is wearing an Organization XIII coat saying "darkness will prevail and the light expire".  Those who know the Kingdom Hearts series know that it is about a war between darkness and light, not to mention Keyblades.

Kingdom Hearts HD Final Chapter Prologue is coming in December 2016, and it is clear that it is a big set up to an even bigger Kingdom Hearts 3.  Fans of this gaming franchise have been longing for this particular game in the series, and it won't be the last game, but it will close the book on certain elements of the Kingdom Hearts series.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is filled only with rumors, and one of the latest is that Disney and Square Enix are going to reveal more about the game at E3 2016.  E3 is a huge gaming  convention at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and it will be held on June 14-16 this year.

Perhaps Kingdom Hearts 3 will finally have its specified release date, which is probably going to be in 2017, probably late in the year.  IGN says that Tetsuya Nomura says that the world of Kingdom Hearts 3 are new, and there are a lot of Disney-related worlds that it could use.  Those who are not fans of the Kingdom Hearts series know that a lot of Disney worlds from animated films as well as animated characters are a part of this gaming series, as are properties from Square Enix's other hit gaming franchise, Final Fantasy

Considering that Final Fantasy 15 is the long-awaited game with a designated release date coming much sooner than Kingdom Hearts 3, it is possible that it will take all the spotlight at E3.
