Android 5.1 Lollipop updates for the LG G3 and G2 have yet to materialize, while major U.S. carriers have announced release dates for the LG G4. Customers can start purchasing the LG G4 at Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. At this time, Sprint is the only nationwide carrier offering LG G4 pre-orders.

LG G4 Highlights

Right out of the box, the LG G4 has the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware installed. Clad in black leather or metallic silver, this phone retains a classy outline that is sure to please the high-end consumer.

T-Mobile is the only carrier offering the brown leather covering, instead of the standard black leather case. While supplies last, customers will get a free 128 microSD card with every purchase of an LG G4. 

The LG G4 runs on a 1.8 GHz Hexa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 3 GB RAM. Besides having 32 GB of internal storage, the device supports up to 2 TB space via an optional microSD card. Generally, the microSD cards are sold separately.

Regarding display, the LG G4 sports a 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS Curved Screen with 2560x1440 resolution. The device has a 5.86in x 3.0in dimension as well as a 0.39in thickness. Perhaps the more notable feature is the removable 3000 mAH Li-ION battery, which allows users to swap out spent batteries with spares. Other devices do not include this option.

This device does not sell for cheap, with a starting price of $599. However, the LG G4 is available for $29.99 if the purchaser is willing to commit to a 2-year plan.

LG G3, G2 Android 5.1 Lollipop ETA Uncertain

Both the LG G3 and G2 are still operating on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, despite the presence of bugs. Users have reported seeing unusually fast battery drain, app crashes, random reboots, and WiFi connectivity problems.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop fixes a number of these issues. However, LG has remained mum regarding when the G3 and G2 will be getting that update.

Also, Google is already applying the next Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to its own proprietary Nexus devices. This update is available with LG's G Flex 2 as well.That means two major LG devices have gotten new Android updates, which leaves out the G3 and G2.

Consumers will also need to consider that it takes time for carriers to distribute any Android Lollipop update from LG. According to GottaBeMobile, U.S. wireless providers were the last companies to roll out the Android 5.0.2. Lollipop on the G3 and G2. Nonetheless, the publication told users to expect either the Android 5.1 Lollipop or Android 5.1.1 Lollipop sometime in the future.

So for now, the release date for the next Android Lollipop update on the G3 and G2 remains unknown.
