LG's highly-anticipated LG G3 smartphone has finally been unveiled last week, during an event streamed live over the internet from London, UK. At roughly the same time, four major U.S. carriers said they will start selling the LG G3 in summer 2014.

The carriers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon have yet to confirm prices for their new LG smartphones. Sprint, on the other hand, featured on its website an exclusive LG G3 with a metallic 'Shine Gold' cover that will be available in July this year. Despite the lack of further details, the LG G3 release date is more or less confirmed for this coming summer.

This latest offering is LG's answer to its rival Samsung, which has already come out with the flagship Galaxy s5 smartphone. The Galaxy s5 is considered Samsung's best mobile device in 2014, so there will surely be a number of LG G3 vs. Samsung Galaxy s5 comparison reviews that will pop up over the next weeks.

Already, the LG G3 is a vast improvement over its predecessor, the LG G2 smartphone. Previously, the LG G2 was superior in many respects to Samsung's Galaxy series in regards to the display. Still, the LG G2 experienced annoying issues that varied depending on user experience. Users generally reported slow charging, lag or stuttering, GPS malfunction, or mobile connection errors. LG has supposedly ironed out most of these problems in the G3 mobile device.

As expected in any flagship device, the LG G3 has a variety of top-of-the-line features that include a 5.5-inch display with a high-definition resolution of 2560x1440. Powering the device is the latest quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3 GB RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage. These specs absolutely trump the current offering of LG's other rival Apple -- whose flagship device is the iPhone 5. Apple fans need not despair though, for Apple may be unveiling the next-gen iPhone 6 in fall 2014. It will be very interesting to see how the LG G3 will measure up to Apple's iPhone 6 later this year.

The video of the LG G3 unveiling is currently available on LG's YouTube Channel:
