Many people look out for different things when picking out a smartphone these days, and a bevy of features can make the purchase process all the more confusing. However, if there is one particular aspect of smartphones that many would rank high on their list of ‘must haves’, it would be being equipped with the most recent or newest operating system version. The LG G4, a flagship smartphone from LG that is now two generations old, has finally made the jump from Android 6.0 Marshmallow to Android 7.0 Nougat. Better late than never, although we are quite sure that this would most probably be where the upgrade buck stops as the Android world prepares for Android 8.0 Oreo.

While word of the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the LG G4 was first revealed in March earlier this year, alongside the LG V10 (a second flagship smartphone that is one generation old which concentrates more on the audio aspect than anything else), it has obviously taken a few more months of waiting before the Android 7.0 Nougat update came through. Nevertheless, now that the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the LG G4 is here, let us take a closer look at the kind of performance improvements to your still solid smartphone, in addition to a whole new interface to get used to.

It must be noted that the Android 7.0 Nougat update is not compulsory for all LG G4 owners, although it might be difficult to point out the number of people who would prefer to stick with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Some might think, “Why bother with an older version of an operating system when you are able to rock out to the latest version?” However, it must be taken into consideration that the newer version of Android is definitely going to require a greater degree of resources, and for a slightly old handset like the LG G4, it is definitely going to run into some kind of hiccups or performance issues.

After all, the LG G4 is no spring chicken, but at least the folks over at LG have been kind enough to roll out an official Android 7.0 Nougat update. It should also be underlined that the Android 7.0 Nougat update has been evaluated by numerous testers on their respective LG G4 handsets, so it should be more than ready to see action across a broader range of audience.

There might be some bugs that have yet to be fixed in the latest update though, but it is definitely not going to brick your device, so fret not. However, it must be noted that one should always go through the regular routine of making a backup of all important data on your LG G4 before going ahead with the software update.

So far, it seems that the South Korean variants of the LG G4 (also known as the F500K, F500L, and F500S where their model numbers are concerned) have picked up the Android 7.0 Nougat update. After completing the installation, one should be able to make use of all the other features and goodies that come with Android 7.0 Nougat, including split screen mode for multi-taskers, a better Doze mode for improved battery life, and revamped Settings, among others.

Do take note that the whole list of Android 7.0 Nougat features might not function well, and the operating system might be a wee bit unstable in usage at times due to internal compatibility issues. Is this a small price to pay as an LG G4 owner? Only time will tell.
