A 5000 meter-long silk scroll of the Bible was unveiled in Beijing Exhibition Hall last Saturday, and is expected to be listed as a Guinness World Record.

The piece of art work is claimed to be the longest Chinese character scroll on silk fabric in the world. The scroll is made up of 50 volumes, each 100 meters long, so the total length reaches 5000.77 meters, according to the Hong Kong-based Chinese newspaper Ta Kung Pao. The total number of Chinese characters exceeds 900 thousands.

The scroll of the Bible took one calligrapher a year and a half to complete and was created with the intention of fostering communication and better understanding between western and oriental cultures.

The copyright of the silk scroll is now owned by the general manager of Beijing Tongchuang Culture Co. Ltd., whose name is Ma Li. She told reporters that a fund-raising worldwide exhibition tour will be launched and is now under preparation.

According to the report, the silk has the highest quality produced in Hu Zhou, China. The white silk symbolizes holiness. A special box was made by handcraft to store the silk scroll.
