The Kings (46-28-8) and Sharks (51-22-9) faced off in the postseason for the third year in a row. The Kings has a 3-1-1 record over the Sharks, but the Sharks won the most recent game 2-1 on April 3.

The Kings has the lowest-scoring stats in the postseason (206 goals). But their top players forward Marian Gaborik, Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams have a combined 30 points in this season's 11 regular-season games.

The Sharks' coach Todd McLellan have moved San Jose's leading scoring Pavelski, who has 41 goals and 79 points, from the top line to the third line. The idea is to provide better scoring balance.

Goalie Antti Niemi will start Game 1 for the Sharks.
