Macbook Air with Retina Display Release Date, Latest Rumors

Apple's Macbook Air with Retina Display release date may be pushed to next year, according to the latest speculation on the web.

News of the alleged delay first broke over at the A Tech Website, which quoted an anonymous source as saying that Apple is pushing a mid-2015 launch for the 12-inch notebook.

The website also claimed that the reason for the delay was because Apple was waiting for the newly released Intel Broadwell processor, which does not require a cooling fan. As such, this chip is designed to be used in thinner laptops.  The Broadwell processor may be Intel's thinnest chip to date.

It was initially believed in the rumor mill that the Retina MacBook Air would be ready by the end of 2014. This was the result of an earlier report by Taiwanese news site DigiTimes, which claimed that Apple was finalizing plans with Quanta Computer to manufacture the 12-inch Macbook Air with Retina Display. The supposed mass production was set to begin in the third-quarter of this year, which coincides with the winter holiday season.

Rumors of the Macbook Air with Retina Display began last year, when KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple was working on 12-inch MacBook.

The 12-inch MacBook Air may come in either Space Gray or Gold, which is the same color option for Apple's iPhones. At this time, MacBook models only come in standard aluminum. A Tech Website expressed doubt that gold was one of the color choices. However, MacRumors believed that the entire color list was possible.

Currently, the MacBook Air comes in either an 11-inch or 13-inch version. The 12-inch MacBook Air with Retina Display is rumored to be the replacement for smaller MacBook.
