Approaching the National Day of Malaysia, the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF) of Malaysia launched the "Lighting Up Our Nation 2005" campaign. The campaign includes a series of celebrations, conferences as well as prayer initiative, all being held at the last week of August.

Malaysia, as one of the world’s centers of Islam, has been experiencing a growth in the number of Christians. "Lighting Up Our Nation 2005" campaign is a desperate call of the evangelicals in Malaysia to the Christian minority, urging them to transform the gospel-thirsty country through gathering strength from above in prayers.

The "Lighting Up Our Nation 2005" National Conference was held on August 25-27. Dr Peter Tsukahira, the founder of Asia Center, a ministry to Asian Christians, was invited to speak on the closing ceremony.

Speaking on the theme "Turning To Our Father in Heaven", Dr Tsukahira shared how the Prophet Elijah was able to obtain the spirit and power through his worship to God. He also cited some stories in the Bible where the character came before God in face of adversity and was able to breakthrough the reality to make miracles. The audience was greatly strengthened by his speech.

Dr Peter Tsukahira currently serves on the board of directors of Church Growth International. He also pastors an international fellowship named Kehilat HaCarmel (Carmel Assembly) in the Holy Land. He has a prophetic view of Israel and its connection to revival in Asia.

The "Lighting Up Our Nation 2005" campaign very much emphasized on the power of prayers. With the vision to raise the next generation as the army for Christ, the first ever National Children’s Prayer Conference was carried out on August 26-27. Apart from the highlighted National Conference held last weekend, a 40-day nationwide fasting, prayer and charity has already launched on July 22, and it will last until August 30.

All Christian denominations in the 13 states in Malaysia unite together in the 40-day period to pray specifically for seven topics: individual, family, youth, church, government, economy as well as social community.

At the last three days of the 40-day journey, more intensive prayer rallies will be held from August 28-30, so that the power of the Holy Spirit can be retained on the land.
