The Manchester United FC has been offered Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to French newspaper L'Equipe. Cavani is reportedly being pitched to Old Trafford since the French club is apparently intent on holding on to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose contract will expire at the end of the current season.

After being linked with moves for Neymar and Lionel Messi, PSG has supposedly set a £32 asking price for Cavani if Manchester United decides to acquire him early next year. Now that the English club's offense is in desperate need of reinforcement, Goal pointed out that they will make a move for the 28-year-old striker in the January transfer window.

United boss Louis van Gaal explored the idea of signing Cavani earlier. The Dutch manager has grown concerned over Wayne Rooney's less-than-stellar form this season, with the Red Devils captain netting twice in 12 Premier League outings, according to The Metro.

With Rooney's performance and fitness not how they once were, a lot of pressure is being piled on the shoulders of teenage French striker Anthony Martial. As such, it would not be completely surprising for Van Gaal to look for reinforcements.

While Cavani is plying his trade with PSG at present, he is is still widely viewed as one of the most lethal strikers in the continent. He arrived in Paris for a French record fee of around £45million two years ago and scored 16 league goals during his first season.

However, the Uruguayan is reported to be unhappy with his current role at the "Les Rouge-et-Bleu" club and is expected to be open for offers in the coming months. Cavani is said to be frustrated at coach Laurent Blanc's decision to position him on the wing in order to accommodate Ibrahimovic in a central role.

Meanwhile, Manchester is also considering a move to acquire 16-year-old star Reece Oxford from West Ham United in January. In a report on Sunday, The Times mentioned that Manchester United are preparing a bold £8 million bid for the West Ham defender.

Oxford is expected to sign a new two and a half year contract with the Hammers, but when he turns 17 this month the versatile teenager may be considering his options for next year. Apart from the Red Devils, Chelsea and Liverpool are also reportedly interested on Oxford despite the fact that he only made a total of six appearances this season.

The Tottenham Hotspur product came up through the ranks of West Ham's youth system prior to being promoted to the first team by manager Slaven Bilic. He became the club's youngest ever player to make a debut in the Europa League qualifier against FC Lusitanos back in July.
