Sparrow Records recording artist Matthew West shared that even the most bothersome leaky ceiling on a rainy day can turn to good things, which is what exactly inspired his song °The End± the second hit from his first album, °HAPPY.±
"I was fast asleep in my bedroom in Nashville, when I heard my alarm clock ringing,± West says. °I looked outside, saw that it was raining, and went right back to bed. Then, as I was drifting back to sleep, I felt something wet. Sure enough, there was a leak in the ceiling, and rain was pouring on my head. The funny thing is, my ceiling fan was on high, so as the rain leaked through, it hit the fan, and before I knew it, I was underneath a giant sprinkler! I got out of bed, picked up the guitar and started singing, it was raining when I woke up this morning.±
"One Sunday, I sang this song at a church, and a woman came up to talk to me. She told me about her ongoing battle with depression, and how hard it is for her to get out of bed some days. She said the song was what she needed to hear that day; to be reminded that, it¯s not the end. It¯s just like God to use a leak in the ceiling to encourage a life. I was humbled.±
