Microsoft Surface Pro price drops by $100 on both 64 GB and 128 GB tablet models in the latest Microsoft store discount price that will last from August 4th to 29th.

The Surface Pro tablet price cut came less than a month after the software giant reduced the price of its Surface RT tablets by $150. Analysts said that the price reductions are a result of the low number of sales or actual revenue generated from the Surface tablets sales for all of fiscal 2013.

Meanwhile, Microsoft's 2013 fiscal report showed that the company has increased its sales and marketing budget for the Windows Division in 2013 by $1 billion, which included an $898 million increase in advertising costs “associated primarily with Windows 8 and Surface.” However, the revenue generated from both the sales of Surface Pro and RT combined is only $853 million.

In the same period, Apple sold 57 million iPads, meaning it could have sold them for just $15 per device and still matched Microsoft's tablet revenue figure. Despite these figure, that's not to say that Microsoft is out of the game of tablet sales as there are growing interests among the consumers for hybrid mobile devices that can work as tablets and laptops.

Microsoft plans to update both Surface Pro and RT tablets, which is scheduled for release in early 2014. Recent rumors suggest the new Surface RT will include a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip and could go 4G for even faster internet connection. The Surface Pro will probably be beefed up with a next-generation Intel Haswell chip, as featured in top-notch new ultrabooks and tablets.
