Unlocked Lumia 640, 940, and 940 XL are already available. However, major U.S. carriers have yet to announce release dates for the new Microsoft devices. Luckily, there is information regarding which wireless service provider will carry the latest Lumia smartphones. In the sections below, we will explore the availability situation as well as likely ETA's for the said devices.

Lumia 640 Supply Situation

So far, AT&T and T-Mobile are the only nationwide carriers expected to sell the Lumia 640. MetroPCS, which is owned by T-Mobile, will also carry the smartphone.

T-Mobile's version may arrive on June 17, while A&T has yet to offer a launch schedule. Currently, AT&T lists the Lumia 640 as coming soon.

The Lumia 640 comes with a modest 5-inch display with 720p x 1080 resolution. It is also powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor and 1 GB of RAM. Its rear camera is only capable of 8-megapixel, and has no flash. There is 8 GB of internal storage, and the option to store up to 128 GB via microSD card.

Those who want a bigger screen and camera can buy the more expensive Lumia 640 XL instead. Unlike the Lumia 640, this device includes a 5.7-inch screen and 13-megapixel rear camera.

Lumia 940, 940 XL

Both the Lumia 940 and 940 XL are the anticipated successors to the Lumia 930. For now, Microsoft has not confirmed their existence. Even so, rumors stipulate that that the Lumi 930 is undergoing development under the codename Talkman, while its large 940 XL brother is operating under Cityman.

Happily, MSN.com posted renders of the Lumia 940 and 940 XL. Even so, the website warned that these images were created by fans. So, the validity of the renders should be taken with "a prince of salt."

There is still the slight possibility that the Lumia 940 and 940 XL will be revealed at this year's BUILD conference in Germany. This is around the time when Microsoft unveils its latest devices. However, this is not to suggest that the Lumia 940 will undoubtedly show up.

Naturally, specs information is entirely based on hearsay. WMPowerUser reported that Lumia 940 may have a 5.2-inch display, while the Lumia 940 XL may sport a 5.7-inch display. Both devices might share the same 20 MP rear camera, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. The Lumia 940 might have 3000mAH battery, while the Lumia 940 XL may come with a 3300mAH battery. Regarding processing power, the Lumia 940 XL may contain a Snapdragon 808 chipset.

The Lumia 940 series are destined to compete with a variety of top devices including the Samsung Galaxy S6, Motorola Moto X, Apple iPhone 6, and HTC One M9.
