Speculations are now running high about Microsoft's next-generation Surface Pro tablet. The current Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is currently available at a lower price, leading some tech experts to say the Surface Pro 5 launching may happen very soon. Here's the latest round-up of update about Surface Pro 5, Book 2 release date, specs and rumors.

According to Amazon, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 model that has 256 GB, 8 GB RAM, and Intel Core i7e is now available for only $1,383.44 with free shipping. The device was previously priced at $1,599.00.

Also, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with 512 GB, 16 GB RAM, and Intel Core i7e has a bigger discount. From $2,199, it is now available for only $1,979.99.

Several industry experts say the discounted Surface Pro 4 models might be Microsoft's move to refresh its device lineup. Also, it is a good strategy to market the Surface Pro brand.

As for the specs of Surface Pro 5, it is believed the tablet will have a clearer screen than the current Pro 4, which has 2736×1824 pixel screen resolution. Therefore, it is possible the Pro 5 will sport a 4K screen resolution. To deal with a high-res screen, Microsoft may also install the powerful battery and a USB-Type C connector.

Based on a Surface Pro 4 review, the device can only last for 5 hours and 15 minutes on video playback. This battery life is disappointing for some users who want to maximize the device's functionality. So, the forthcoming Pro 5 could at least have 7 hours of reliable battery life, putting it closer to other tablets in the market like Apple's iPad Pro.

Tech Radar suggested the next-generation Surface Pro could be available in the third quarter of the year. The Surface Pro 4 was introduced in October 2015, so Microsoft might use that launch window again this year.  Based on estimates, the starting price of Surface Pro 5 could be around $899.

For the other Microsoft Surface device, latest rumors suggest the Surface Book 2 will be released together with the Surface Pro 5. It is expected to sport a 3.5-inch screen display with a 2000 x 3000-pixel resolution. Just like the Surface Pro 5, Surface Book 2 will also have a USB Type-C port for added functionality. It could become available with a $1,499 price tag.

Lastly, take note that the details above are only rumors and speculations. Microsoft has not yet confirmed any details, so let's with take it with a proverbial pinch of salt.
