The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will obviously take over from where its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4, left off. The Surface Pro 4 proved to be more than an able hybrid device, and fans of the tablet are looking forward to the Surface Pro 5 being equally popular, if not more, when it is released. What do we know about the upcoming 2-in-1 device in terms of the Surface Pro 5 release date, latest news, hardware specifications and features, as well as price?

So far, as of the end of last month, we found out that Microsoft had already halted sales of the Surface Pro 3 across the pond ("out of stock" in the UK) as well as back home in the US. This is a step that is normally taken by retailers when they would like to make shelf space for a new and upcoming product, so to see a device that would eventually be two generations old taken off makes perfect sense that the Surface Pro 5 is about to be released.

The past is certainly a very interesting indicator of what will happen in the future, and based on previous Surface Pro model release dates, we might just narrow down as to when the Surface Pro 5 release date would be. For instance, the Surface Pro 4 was announced on October 6 and released within the same month on October 26. The older Surface Pro 3 was announced on May 20 and released a month later, with the Surface Pro 2 also following a one month lull between the announcement and release. As for the original Surface Pro, it took the longest -- a June 18 announcement followed by an October 26 release date. No preset release date pattern has been finalized just yet, but it would not be wrong to say that the Surface Pro 5’s availability would be within the month after its official announcement.

In terms of hardware specifications, there are also other Surface Pro 5 rumors that point to the 2-in-1 hybrid tablet to arrive with a 4K display while running on the latest Intel Kaby Lake processors. If the 4K display on the Surface Pro 5 rumor were to turn out to be true, then it would truly be an interesting development as users are able to enjoy high quality images on a relatively small viewing real estate. After all, the Surface Pro family of devices had always taken pride in being the high end tablet hybrid where Windows 10-powered devices are concerned. The screen itself comes with a kickstand and there is a keyboard base which allows it to be used as a full fledged computer as and when required. And why not? After all, it runs on Intel’s Core i7 processors in the past, which would clearly place it at desktop performance levels while you are on the move.

Microsoft did not launch the Surface Pro 5 at CES that happened last month, and it remains to be seen as to when the next possible press event will cater to a launch for a device of such magnitude. Perhaps at this year’s press event in October? However, there are signs that an earlier release in the spring is also a possibility since it would jive with the upcoming Redmond 2 Windows 10 update.
