The Lunar New Year is upon us, and Microsoft is bringing the celebration to Minecraft with a new pack, inspired by the Journey to the West

Game Developer Mojang brings new improvements to Minecraft. The game's Windows 10 Edition Beta and Pocket Edition players are set to receive all-new new character skins based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West. The developers said the update comes in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

Here's what we know so far about the latest developments in Minecraft February update.

Xbox Wire published that that the Journey to the West skin pack update is now available in the Windows Store for the price of $1.99.  The update brings the main characters from one of the most iconic Chinese tale to the game. The update is playable in Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta and Minecraft: Pocket Edition.

Journey to the West was first published in the 16th century. However, even though it was launched hundreds of years ago, the story is still a source of inspiration for game developers and creators today. In majority of the English-speaking countries, the work is widely known as Monkey.

Now for Mincrafters, they can play as the main character of the novel Monkey King or one of over a dozen characters from the Chinese folk story. Also, adventurous players will definitely enjoy the newest update. They can embark on their own journey to uncover long-forgotten dungeons and other unexplored regions with new costumes.

Furthermore, these skins are perfect for variety of game modes. Role-players can recreate Chinese folk tales, builders can redesign an entire imperial city in costume and PVP warriors can set up battles between demons and heroes.

Window's official blog site published some of the skin names:

  • Princess Iron Fan
  • Lord Hundred-Eyes
  • Bull Demon King
  • Monkey King
  • Jade Emperor
  • Red Boy
  • Scorpion Demon
  • Spider Demon
  • Xuanzang

As of now, there's still no official announcement on when it will be available on other consoles and the regular PC version of the game.

Meanwhile, Mojang recently updated Minecraft for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4 with a staggering amount of features. The "Update 1.8.8." is said to be the biggest for the game, bringing the console versions closer to the current PC build than they've ever been before.

The massive update encourages players to explore more and head far off into the horizon to discover a new kind of world. There are new items for all game mode. In addition, there are tons of additional biomes like Mega Taiga, Roofed Forest, Birch Forest, Forest, Savanna, Extreme Hills+, Deep Ocean.
