Mortal Kombat X DLC Update and Pack 2 Release Date: Creative Director Teases Meat and Rain In Next Update

Mortal Kombat X
Expect a lot of DLC content.

Ed Boon, the creative director of Mortal Kombat X, teased fans with suggestions that the character Meat will be included in the next DLC update. He did the same thing last month, when he hinted about Rain over on Twitter.

Naturally, this does not necessarily means that NetherRealm Studios is adding the two legacy characters from the Mortal Kombat franchise. MK is currently playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will be released on older consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime later this year.

Meat Teased in Latest Tweet

Just last week, Ed Boon posted on Twitter an animated gif taken from the 1977 film, The Incredible Melting Man. At the top, he wrote the message, "'Meat' must be in Kombat 2."

Just like MK X's meat, the film character has exposed flesh. However, Boon included a cheeky disclaimer by adding "#IfThereIsAKombatPack2."

Fan reaction ranged from excitement to utter disgust. The controversial character last appeared in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Meat's first appearance was in 1997 in Mortal Kombat 4.

Rain May Soon Be a Playable Character (Officially)

Rain is currently a non-playable character in MKX, at least officially. In May, Ed Boon tweeted an advertisement promoting the Rain musical event that paid tribute to the Beatles. Using the concert's title as a pun, Boon wrote that he loved the Beatles. This fueled speculation that MK X will include a playable Rain character in the future.

Even so, the underground modding community is not waiting for official confirmation from NeatherRealm Studios. Two months ago, XVermillion unlocked Rain's source file and associated it with Shinnok. This trick essentially allowed the modder to play as Rain. XVermillion used the same tactic to unlock Sindel and Baraka as well.

New Characters Released So Far

Four new playable characters have been confirmed so far. Those include Tremor, Tanya, Predator, and Jason Vorhees. They are part of the Kombat Pack, which is sold separately.

Tanya was released in Klassic Pack #2 on June 2. Old-school skins for Kano, Sonya Blade, and Liu Kang were also included in the package. As of today, she is available for individual purchase.

Jason Vorhees is now available as well. Kombat Pack buyers also have access to horror-themed skins including Vampiress Mileena, Kraken Reptile, and Pharaoh Ermac. Release dates for both the Predator and Tremor Kombat Pack remain unconfirmed at this time.
