Mother's Day 2017: Ten Best Bible Verses for Cards, Gift Ideas

By Leah Marieann Klett

Mother's Day 2017 is just around this corner - this year, it falls on Sunday, May 14.

From Sarah, Abraham's wife, to Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, there are many women throughout the Bible who are wonderful examples of a mother's sacrifice, unconditional love, and faithfulness.

Proverbs describes a godly woman in this way: "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;  but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."

This coming Sunday, take a moment to reflect on these Bible verses -- and perhaps use one in a card to let your mother, grandmother, or wife know just how much you love and appreciate her.

  2. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. - Proverbs 31:26

  3. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised. - Proverbs 31:30

  4. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 2:3-5

  5. An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. -- Proverbs 31:10

  6. But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. -- 1 Corinthians 11:3

  7. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. -- Ephesians 5:25

  8. For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.' But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is 'devoted to God,' they are not to 'honor their father or mother' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. -- Matthew 15:4-6

  9. Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. -- Proverbs 1:8-9

  10. And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed. -- Luke 1:46-48
