Speculations about the Boston Celtics heading out to California to meet a potential NBA superstar have ramped up after Danny Ainge posted a photo of Wally the dead whale. As strange as it may sound, the photo confirms that the general manager is currently in San Diego.

The rumors about the possible meeting began after Ainge posted the photo of a whale's carcass that washed up on the beach on his Twitter account. He then captioned the photo "A whale of a life #burymeontheSanDiegobeach."

For the San Diego locals, Wally, despite being dead, is a bit of a celebrity. This 22-ton humpback whale carcass first ended up on shore during the Fourth of July holiday. Since then, it has been removed on the beach six times already but still keeps on ending up on shores, according to the Celtics Blog.

During the weekend it washed up again at the Grandview Beach. Many beach goers, including Ainge, were able to catch a glimpse of the dead beast.

Now, going back to the rumors, the photo of Wally is evidence that Ainge is in San Diego. Although the GM could just be taking a vacation, this could also suggest that he has traveled to California to possibly recruit a new member of the Celtics.

At this point, it's not yet clear as to who that could be but given the recent updates on some certain NBA players, there are a few names that have been linked to this possible deal. One of those is Blake Griffin due to the simple fact that he lives in Los Angeles, since he is a member of the Clippers.

But aside from his location alone, the Clippers currently have a surplus of power forwards after getting Marreese Speights, Brice Johnson, Brandon Bass and Diamond Stone. This could mean that the team may be open to shopping him to another franchise, such as the Celtics.

Kevin Love is also a possible target for the Celtics. Also, everybody knows that Love is currently in California since he recently attended the ESPYs in Los Angeles with his teammates from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, since California is a popular vacation spot for many NBA superstars, it's a bit hard to guess who Ainge will meet there.
