According to new reports, Jose Calderon has been traded by the Chicago Bulls to the Los Angeles Lakers. For the LA team, this could be a good opportunity to build up their roster for the 2016-2017 NBA season.

News about the trade was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical on Twitter. Before ending up in Chicago, Calderon played for the New York Knicks from 2014 to 2016. Then, last month, he along with Robin Lopez and Jerian Grant were traded by the Knicks to the Bulls in exchange for Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday and a second-round pick for the 2017 NBA Draft.

However, according to new reports, it seems Calderon did not last long in Chicago since he was reportedly traded to Los Angeles. The Lakers team, on the other hand, did not have to give up any of its players for the trade since they currently have a cap space of $21 million.

In order words, they still have the leeway to cover Calderon's contract with the Bulls, which is about $7.7 million for the upcoming season. According to Bleacher Report, the Bulls decided to trade away Calderon in order to free up cap space in preparation for Dwayne Wade's arrival.

Aside from being able to keep its current roster intact, getting the Spanish professional basketball player is also a good move for the Lakers. Sure, NBA fans would probably say that at 34 years old, Calderon is already past his prime.

In addition, during his time with the next, he spent most games sitting on a bench due to his various injuries. But, despite this, there were still a few highlights in his career such as when he was able to score the three-point winning shot when there was only 0.2 seconds left in the clock. This happened on March 13 of this year when the Knicks took on the Lakers.

In addition, Calderon has the veteran experience to help mold the Lakers' young roster. And, even though he lacks defensive capabilities, he certainly makes up for these through his run-and-gun offense.
