The rookie batch this NBA season are deemed as potential equals of the 2003 draft class. At the moment, Karl-Anthony Towns, D'Angelo Russell and Kristaps Porzingis are making a name for themselves. Their skills are regularly compared with those exhibited by LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade. However, not all rookies have the same level of acceptance in teams.

One of the most admirable relationships in the NBA is the mentor-mentee partnership of Kevin Garnett and Towns. The Minnesota Timberwolves stars have been consistently reported to be working closely together. According to sources, the up and coming rookie and the NBA veteran are aiming to polish the former's skills in the hardwood court.

"Talking, watching, learning," shared Towns, referring to his regular tutorial sessions with Garnett, according to the New York Times. The rookie added, "It's an all-day thing." While receiving one-on-one lessons from an NBA champ is something to brag about, Towns chooses not to disclose details. According to the rookie, his veteran basketball mentor likes to keep things private when it comes to their sessions.

"I don't want to say," said Towns when details were asked regarding Garnett's lessons. He added, "There are some things he does that I think we're all accustomed to seeing, but there are some that are kind of unusual."

The same relationship could be observed in the New York Knicks roster. Anthony, the franchise's face, has been quite vocal in his desire to provide support for rookie Kristaps Porzingis. The Latvian star has been gaining accolades as of late. With the said commendations, Anthony has been nothing but proud and encouraging of the newcomer.

As for Towns, the number one draft pick this year, he is constantly on the lookout for ways to improve his performance. He said via Asbury Park Press, "I always want to be working on the tricks in my bag. I just wait to develop the trick fully and make sure it's the best trick I can possibly use."

He added, referring to his sessions with Garnett, "It's been amazing, learning from one of the great players to play the game. Not just basketball knowledge, but personal life -- how to be a better human being. The biggest thing he tells me is to keep striving for greatness."

Meanwhile, some fans are disappointed over the lesser minutes Towns played in court. Some argue that the Minnesota Timberwolves are wasting their talent by benching one of the most promising players in the NBA. However, Karl Towns, the rookie's father, feels otherwise. According to the senior Towns, his son found the perfect spot to hone his skills and grow as an NBA star.

"Minnesota was the best place for Karl because he got senior leadership," Towns, Sr shared. He went on to state, "The best thing that ever happened to Karl was Kevin Garnett being there. He doesn't have to learn on his own. He has somebody mentoring him. When he goes to the bench he has an NBA Hall of Famer there to tell him exactly what he sees, what he needs to do on the floor. I think that's why he's been so successful."
