Reports suggest that the Minnesota Timberwolves are highly considering getting Rudy Gay from the Sacramento Kings through a trade. In exchange the team is reportedly willing to give up point guard Ricky Rubio.

The Timberwolves were pretty quiet during the trade and free agency seasons earlier this year. While most teams scrapped at one another to rebuild their rosters, Minnesota's lineup stayed relatively the same, Inquisitr reported.

But, given their performance last season, the Timberwolves need to make a few drastic changes to its roster if it wants to be a strong title contender in the upcoming 2016-2017 NBA season. One way of doing so is by bringing in new players.

According to reports, the Timberwolves are interested in acquiring Gay, who was reportedly placed by the Kings on the trading block last month, ESPN noted.

Having Gay on the lineup can certainly boost the Timberwolves' plays. In addition, coach Tom Thibodeau will have a veteran athlete who can serve as an appropriate mentor for the team's young players such as Andrew Wiggins.

In addition, there's a possibility that Gay could become an even better player at Minnesota because he will be in a new environment, far from the drama in Sacramento.

As for Rubio, he has been with the Timberwolves since 2011 and a change in his surroundings can also be good for him. As seen in his time with Minnesota, he has been a relatively consistent point guard who is capable of averaging 10.1 points per game.

The Kings could use this kind of consistency especially given the ongoing feud between the coaching staff and some of the players. In addition, with Rubio in the lineup, the Kings will have someone reliable to pair up with DeMarcus Cousins.

Aside from this, maybe the presence of Rubio can also ease the tension between Cousins and the team, which some member previously said was causing a rift in the entire organization.

However, if the Timberwolves really want to acquire Gay through a trade, then they should probably act fast since the Kings are reportedly actively shopping the athlete around. One of the teams that has been linked to a deal with Sacramento are the Chicago Bulls.
