The rise of the likes of Zach LaVine and Karl-Anthony Towns has been the source of hope for the fans of the Kevin Garnett squad. However, the Minnesota Timberwolves suffered a setback with the re-injury of Kevin Martin. The veteran, who has been known to incur quite a number of health concerns, sat out the game against the San Antonio Spurs.

"It's not a perfect situation and K-Mart's been great, but it is what it is," said Sam Mitchell of the benching of the NBA veteran, according to CBS Sports. The Minnesota Timberwolves head coach added, "I'm not saying K-Mart's not going to play, but I talked to him before the game and he understands some of the things we're trying to do."

Some sports analysts believe that the words of Mitchell are indicative of a longer bench time for Martin than what is necessary. Meanwhile, fans are speculating that K-Mart's reduced minutes in the hardwood court may be a sign of an impending trade. In fact, a person who is said to be knowledgeable of the situation revealed to Associated Press (via NBA.com) that the Minnesota Timberwolves have opened trade talks regarding Martin.

One of the NBA teams that might be interested in acquiring K-Mart is the Denver Nuggets. Head coach Michael Malone shared his respect and admiration for Martin, saying that the NBA veteran is a valuable player especially for the offense.

"You look at his numbers every year, very efficient offensive player," said Malone of Martin. The Denver Nuggets head coach added, "He has the uncanny ability to draw contact and get to the line."

Meanwhile, the absence of Martin in the roster during the San Antonio Spurs game saw LaVine take on the shooting guard post, with Tyus Jones playing 20 minutes. Mitchell, albeit impressed by the young stars' stats, shared that he remains guarded regarding relying too much on the newcomers. The Minnesota Timberwolves head coach added that the NBA team still looks up to the veterans to take on the lead roles in the hardwood courts.

"I have to rein myself in sometimes," shared Mitchell, according to CTV News. He added, "Sometimes I get a little overzealous or excited when we beat Atlanta, beat Chicago, beat some of these teams. I have to remind myself that Andrew Wiggins is 20. Zach LaVine, Karl-Anthony Towns, guys we're leaning on are 20 years old. But I'm pleased that we're getting better. I think everyone can see that."
