The New York Knicks are finally giving in to the rebuilding process with Kristaps Porzingis at the center of it all. With a Carmelo Anthony trade only needing a formality by the end of the season, the Derrick Rose team seems to be on the verge of releasing all its veteran stars to make way for younger and more promising leaders. Will a Blake Griffin contract be the best option for Phil Jackson’s triangle to finally work its magic?

The Los Angeles Clippers, which now sit at fifth place in the West behind the Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors, are expected to break up their Big 3 composed of DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. With the All-Star players seemingly unable to bring the JJ Redick team to the NBA Finals once again, Doc Rivers and the front office are figuring out their options this offseason. One of the main points of contention in the roster is a potential Blake Griffin trade that could rake in huge advantages for the Los Angeles Clippers.

“Griffin is set to be a free agent this summer, along with fellow Clippers’ players Chris Paul and JJ Redick, if he opts out of his contract which would seem to be a formality at this point,” noted Honi Ahmadian of the Lakers Outsiders. He added, “If the Clippers continue their lack of prominent success in the playoffs (they are currently the fifth seed in the Western Conference), it’s not inconceivable that Griffin will look for greener pastures.”

Rumors are rife that the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are seriously interested in pushing for a Blake Griffin trade. However, the New York Knicks are reportedly coming off as a strong contender to land the Lob City leader. Although Kristaps Porzingis remains the face of the franchise, many believe that a stronger and more relatable veteran player might be a better influence to the young star.

“I’m trying to learn how to be the guy, how to be the focal point. Make a play or create a shot for myself. I’m still working on that. I still have a lot to learn. That’s one thing as I keep growing as a player I’ll have to learn and be better at,” shared Kristaps Porzingis of his role in the New York Knicks.
