Stephen Curry, point guard of the Golden State Warriors and reigning NBA MVP will become an unrestricted free agent in 2017. As early as now, there are rumors suggesting that Curry will not be rejoining the Warriors once he enters free agency two years from now.

The 27-year-old player, who also ranks fourth in Sports Illustrated's list of the top 100 NBA players of 2016, is currently just fifth-highest paid player in the team with an $11.37 million salary for the 2015-16 season. He remains a total bargain for the Golden State champions after signing a $44 million deal spread out in four years back in October 2012. It will pay him $12.1 million in the upcoming 2016-17 season.

Once Curry goes to free agency, he can earn a five-year max contract that could compensate him with more than $30 million for each season. That will be the case unless he irons out an extension with the Warriors before the summer of 2017.

Those figures may not mean much if ever Curry decides to opt out of the team. Some NBA enthusiasts apparently agrees with the notion that the Warriors superstar might contemplate with the idea of leaving, even with all the accolades he had received.

A sports-centric site cited Lebron James as an example. The star player recently returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers after four years of playing for the Miami Heat. If a top-performing player like James can leave his team then it may also apply to other stars in the NBA, the site observes.

However, Golden State fans who want Curry to stay might not need to worry as the NBA's current MVP mentioned that being a free agent "isn't really appealing" to him. He also warned against being too focused on the long term.

Speaking to Sporting News' Jimmy Spencer during a recent golf event, Curry mentioned that he loves his present situation and added that "...free agency isn't really appealing to me because I love where I'm at, love the organization I'm playing for, and the Bay Area is home for me and my family."

The Warriors point guard noted that he wanted to continue building the momentum that he has established with the team and expressed hope to become a huge part of the Golden State Warriors in the foreseeable future.

 "Everybody in this league is going to have many decisions to make, and you'll be in a lot of different situations throughout your career, so in order to enjoy the ride, you kind of have to not get too ahead of yourself and just stay in the moment," Curry further explained.
