Netflix renews ''Longmire'' for Season 5. Facebook page

Long time viewers and fans of the original Longmire series when it first came out on A&E feel relieved that Netflix has officially renewed the show for Season 5, and that the producers feel invested enough to continue a show that has "heart and soul."

Venture Capital Post reports that executive producer Greer Shephard felt relieved that Netflix swooped in to save the day of Longmire after A&E axed them after the third season, "We're mercifully with a wonderful company now that values viewers over demos and we're benefiting from that." The EP gave this statement at the Television Critics Association press tour last summer.

John Coveny, the creator of the series, said that Netflix loved the series so much and had great plans for the Longmire series. He revealed: "Netflix said, 'We want human beings to watch this show - if it has heart and soul to it, we need that piece in the Netflix family.'"

Longmire is a Western crime drama led by the protagonist Walt Longmire, who is the dedicated sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. He is a widower but remains witty and resilient in the face of adversity. Sheriff Longmire is played by Robert Taylor.

Longmire is based on the Craig Johnson's series, "Walt Longmire Mysteries." The other stars are Katee Sackhoff and Lou Diamond Phillips.

The show ran for three seasons before its TV network A&E decided it would no longer be continued. No matter, the show's loyal viewers put up a fight and a ruckus over social media that Warner Bros. sat up and took notice. Eventually, streaming service Netflix picked it up for season 4.

After a successful run, the series is set to come back for a fifth season. Longmire Season 5 will relieve questions as to the season ender's cliffhanger. In the last episode, Henry was taken away by police officer Mathis while an intruder broke into Walt's home.

A gauge of Longmire's online popularity can be seen from the announcement of Season 5 on Facebook. The announcement got 80,635 likes as of press time. Viewers flooded the Fan page with words of support.

Realty Today reports that the Season 5 premiere will come out in Sept. 2016.
