New England Patriots Cut Tim Tebow from Roster, Reported ESPN

Tim Tebow has been cut from New England Patriots, says a source familiar to the situation, the ESPN reports.

This is the third team that has released Tebow in 18 months. With the regular season just five days away, the chances of him getting signed with another team are minimal, according to NY Post. The Patriots had not yet announced the decision.

While the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback had played only three of the four New England Patriots preseason games, his final quarterback rating was just 47.2, which ranked him the last among all qualified passers this preseason.

Tebow threw two touchdown passes on the week 4 preseason game, leading his team in a 28-20 win over New York Giants on Thursday night. He completed 6 of 11 passes for 91 yards.

Coach Bill Belichick said Friday about the player evaluation process in a press conference. “It’s not just one game (that matters…the body of work, the camp, the rate of improvement, the ability to do the things that players are going to be asked to do at their respective positions (also matters).”

Tebow has played for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets before the Patriots. He was a two-time winner of the NCAA National Football Championship with the University of Florida. He was also the first-ever sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy.
