Development studio Insomniac Games has announced that it is currently working on a new "Spider-Man" game that will be exclusively released for the PlayStation 4 console. The company also released a trailer for the game during this year's E3 event.

The trailer, which is about one minute and 30 seconds long, features a combination of cinematic footage and gameplay clips. It mainly shows the web-slinging superhero taking on armed thugs and gliding through a detailed rendition of New York City.

Watching Spider-Man swing from one building to the next in the trailer is a bit reminiscent of Insomniac Games' other title, "Sunset Overdrive." One of the main gameplay features of this third-person open-world game is that players can navigate through the city by jumping from building rooftops and grinding on randomly laid out cables. Based on the trailer alone, "Spider-Man" looks a little bit like this but less chaotic.

The game, which is simply titled as "Spider-Man," also features a different titular hero. As noted by Insomniac Games' Creative Director Bryan Intihar on the PlayStation Blog, the game's protagonist is not based on the television or film-based versions of the superhero.

Instead, the game features a seasoned Spider-Man who is already used to his role as the city's savior. But, just like in the comic books, the main character is still struggling on how to balance his personal life, career and alter ego.

Like Insomniac Games' other titles, such as the "Ratchet & Clank" series, "Spider-Man" will only be available for the PlayStation 4 once it comes out, which makes it seem like the newly formed partnership between Marvel and Sony is really paying off for both parties and gamers as well.

"From our first meeting, Marvel, Spider-Man and Insomniac have felt like a match made in heaven," Intihar stated.

"This collaboration also allows us to quickly return to action developing on PS4," he continued. "Having released 'Ratchet & Clank,' we feel confident in our ability to create a showpiece for the console. And we're downright giddy bringing Spidey's acrobatic abilities, improvisations and web-slinging to life."
