The latest smartphones from Samsung, LG and HTC were set against each other, as reported by tech news outlet Tech Times, to figure out which of these gadgets is the fastest of all.

Previously, the Galaxy S7 edge was pitted against the HTC 10, with which the latter was determined as the faster smartphone despite a close competition. Another test was also carried out between the S7 edge and LG G5 in a set of laps, with every smartphone showing a better performance at different aspects, giving an even score to both.

However, such tests were carried out by two different sources that made use of separate steps to look into the phones’ performance and features. As such, these results cannot be applied to conclude that LG’s G5 is a better smartphone than the HTC 10.

More recently, the company behind the trial between the S7 edge and HTC 10 performed another speed test that pitted both phones and the LG G5 against each other. It should be noted, however, that the S7 edge used this time by PhoneBuff was the newest version in which the Exynos chipset was integrated, as opposed to the older variants used in previous tests.

In the Tech Times report, a brief summary of the flagship devices’ specifications was provided.

In terms of performance specs, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset was found in the LG G5 and HTC 10, featuring a dual-core 2.15 GHz Kryo and dual-core 1.6 GHz Kryo CPU along with an Adreno 530 GPU.

The S7 edge has become the newest variant that runs on an Exynos 8890 octa-chipset, maximizing the potential of the quad-core Mongoose at 2.3 GHz and the quad-core Cortex-A53 CPUs at 1.6 GHz.

All three smartphones offer 4 GB of RAM and have been installed with an updated Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

When it came to the speed test, PhoneBuff conducted the trial individually for every phone. The recorded clip of each phone was positioned beside each other and set in a group video. A timer was also used in setting the devices while the tests were being carried out, comprised of two laps.

During the first round, each smartphone opened multiple apps in a quick sequence- these include its main camera and music player, a succession of games (e.g. Angry Birds, Asphalt 8) and other performance-heavy apps (e.g. Lapse It), and a set of web apps (e.g. Amazon.com).

The fastest device in completing the tasks was the LG G5 (1:36.27) followed by the S7 edge (1:42.61), which lagged behind when used for a time-lapse app. Meanwhile, the HTC 10 fell behind (1:56.00), lagging in one to two apps.

For the second round, the devices were used to re-open the same apps that ran in the background. This lap sought to determine which gadget is capable of keeping the apps running without critically affecting its performance.

While the LG G5 was the winner during round one, it was shunned aside by the S7 edge and HTC 10. LG’s flagship device was found to have re-initialized several apps. All in all, the Samsung S7 edge won the speed test with (2:20.01) and the HTC 10 came in at (2:22.10). Lastly, the LG G5 placed last with (2:24.11).
