Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date for Nexus 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10: Expected on Nov. 12

While Android fans were expecting the newest operating system to drop for Nexus devices on November 3, it turns out they'll have to wait at least another week.

November 12 is the new launch date for the Nexus 4, 5, 7, and 10 to receive the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update. The Nexus 9 tablet was released on November 3 with the Lollipop update installed, making it the first (and only) device to feature the newest Android platform. The Nexus 6 is expected to released around the 12th with the OS installed.

According to a report at Android Police, the delay is due to significant bugs in the software, and the company just wanted to make sure that the final product lived up to its hype. Of course, Google could just be waiting to unleash Lollipop on all other Nexus devices at the same time, during the launch of the Nexus 6, but that has yet to be confirmed. Pre-order for the Nexus 6 has already begun, although stock is reportedly limited.

Originally, many insiders thought all Nexus devices would see the Lollipop update at the same time on November 3. A leaked internal document stated to Android developers that the Software Development Kit would be available to the Nexus 9, as it was the first device to house the new Android OS. While the note didn't mention anything more than the Nexus 9 and 6, previous supposedly leaked documents pointed to inclusion for all Nexus devices. Now that we know that's not the case, next Wednesday is the new target date.

Lollipop is the most ambitious version of Android to date with over 5,000 new APIs supported at launch. It features a brand new Material Design interface makeover and a more efficient system overall.

Despite this reported delay, some developers are posting on the XDA forums that they are able to install Lollipop on their Nexus 5, 4, and Wi-Fi Nexus 7 versions, although it's not officially supported by Google, yet. Take note that many of these upgrade procedures involve manual ROM installs, so if you're not an advanced Android user, you may want to just wait.

The Nexus 6 is expected to be available through the Google Play Store, Best Buy, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular for $649 (32 GB model) and $699 (64 GB model) off-contract.
