NFL Trade Rumors: Miami Dolphins Sending 2013 First-Round Pick Dion Jordan to Philadelphia Eagles

Dion Jordan is trying to bulk up to fit in with the Dolphins, but he may be traded before the season starts.  Miami Herald

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming into 2014 with high expectations, especially when it comes to continuing to work to implement Chip Kelly's offensive schemes, but that doesn't mean they have given up on the defensive side of the ball.   

As it has been speculated for about a month now, and reenforced by a recent NFL.com article, the team could still pull off a trade for Dion Jordan heading into the summer if they feel that the Dolphins are willing to make a move.  Teams like the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, NY Jets, and Chicago Bears, are also reportedly interested in getting Jordan from the Dolphins.

The Cowboys and Eagles each could use some more depth on the defensive line and Dallas is already dealing with a major injury heading into the season after losing Sean Lee to an ACL tear once again.  The thing that makes Jordan so interesting to the Cowboys is that he plays both the Linebacker and Defensive Line position well.  He has bulked up this year to fit with Miami's plan to use him on the line, but he could fill the role of Linebacker for the Cowboys.

Jordan is highly coveted after being the third overall pick in 2013. Although he has not been great so far, many expect him to get better. The Cowboys defense was in shambles last season, as they ranked 30th in passing yards given up per game and 27th in rushing yards allowed. The team lost DeMarcus Ware in the offseason and bringing in Jordan could add an athletic rusher to the mix and that would be big physical and moral boost, after losing Lee to an injury.

The Eagles are interested in adding Jordan to shore up their pass defense, They would like to see him putting pressure on opposing Quarterbacks to keep them from giving up a league worst when it comes to passing yards allowed.  They could use him and  first round pick Marcus Smith to help out in that department.  

The intangible factor that might make the Eagles deal get done is that while at Oregon Jordan was a defensive force, and reuniting with Kelly could really help him find his groove in the NFL.
