Although the Los Angeles Rams have named Jared Goff as their backup quarterback, coach Jeff Fisher said that the team is not rushing the training of the No. 1 overall draft pick. The coach noted that he is giving the young athlete the time that he needs to prepare in becoming an effective quarterback.

When the season started, Goff turned out to be a disappointment for the Los Angeles organization after it was revealed that he was struggling during practice sessions. Despite being the No. 1 draft pick this year, he did not get the starting spot in the team because Fisher saw that he still wasn't ready.

This is why the team turned to Case Keenum and Sean Mannion as its No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks. However, recent reports indicated that Goff has now moved up to a second-stringer, which will possibly give him the right exposure to become a starting QB someday.

But, according to Fisher, the Rams are not rushing Goff's improvement. Although they still hold practices for him, they won't speed up his training process.

"I'm happy for young quarterbacks when they have success, but we have our own sense of timing here with him," Fisher said. "The quarterbacks are having success because of injuries. As I mentioned last week, had we not had the injuries that we did in the league, probably all four of those quarterbacks either would be inactive or backups."

Carson Palmer, quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals, the team that the Rams will face at Week 4, also noted that the Los Angeles franchise will probably not force Goff to go through a trial by fire type of situation by making him play even though he's not yet ready.

This is why for the meantime, Keenum will still be the team's starter.

"There's such a fine line between throwing a guy in there, making him play... and he knows he's going to go in and struggle because the team's not good like some guys have been," Palmer said.

"The Rams are different," he added. "That's a very good team. They don't need to throw a rookie in there and him learn on the run and the team suffer. They've got a veteran who has the team at the top of the division."
