The Atlanta Falcons faced a heartbreaking loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 51, letting go of a huge lead to Tom Brady and his team. While Matt Ryan, who had been named MVP, performed spectacularly, the NFL team is said to be mulling over signing a Colin Kaepernick contract this offseason. Will the San Francisco 49ers quarterback be a good backup for their MVP?

The San Francisco 49ers have been figuring out to determine how to take full advantage of a Colin Kaepernick contract in their roster. With Blaine Gabbert expected to hit free agency this summer, the Chip Kelly squad needs to make a decision on the quarterback position soon. Will it be time for a rebuild? Will releasing their hold to the Colin Kaepernick contract be the best move for them coming into the new NFL season?

Rumors are rife that Colin Kaepernick has been looking to land a spot in a Super Bowl contender squad. Prior to the 2016-17 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers reportedly wanted to trade the quarterback to the Denver Broncos - a move that was then anticipated to fill the gap left by Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler. However, the entry of Mark Sanchez in the Paxton Lynch team stopped the trade talks.

For the new NFL season, it looks like another round of Colin Kaepernick contract negotiation is taking over the San Francisco 49ers. Speculations point to the quarterback's desire to just get out of the NFL team and rebuild his football career elsewhere. Among the teams reportedly interested in taking a Colin Kaepernick contract are the Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders. However, the Atlanta Falcons are rumored to be the number one priority for a Colin Kaepernick contract.

At this point though, no official comment has been given by the NFL rumor regarding a Colin Kaepernick contract to the Atlanta Falcons. Some reports indicate that the San Francisco 49ers are planning to fix their relationship with the quarterback in an effort to keep him in the team.

"We did have a great discussion and I think Colin left excited and we left excited. And I think as Kyle and I believe, the evaluation process is still very much fluid," revealed John Lynch of the team's plans on a potential new Colin Kaepernick contract. The San Francisco 49ers GM added, "We've only been on the job a couple of weeks and I can tell you we both very much enjoyed being around Colin, and he seems like he's in a real good place."
