The end of the Johnny Manziel era in the Cleveland Browns paved the way for a fresh start for Robert Griffin III who also had a problematic NFL season with the Washington Redskins. As the training camp progresses, fans of RG3 are eager to learn whether or not the quarterback earned the starting position in his new football team. Although Griffin has been consistently promising ever since he signed with the team, it looks like the Cleveland Browns are choosing to stick with Josh McCown for the starting job.

While reports keep surfacing that the Cleveland Browns have opted for RG3 over the more experienced McCown, the NFL team remains mum on the final decision. If the pattern in the league is to be used as the basis, then analysts feel that the starting quarterback role will be given to Josh McCown. Given his consistency and skill, the older NFL star is pegged to be the better starter and leader of the Cleveland Browns.

The 37-year-old quarterback managed to save the Cleveland Browns roster last NFL season especially after the debacle Johnny Manziel brought to their doorstep. With the Johnny Football drama unfolding before them, the NFL team had to lean on a dependable and consistent presence in the team to help the other members of the roster. Hence, rumors are rife that the Cleveland Browns roster will see Josh McCown crowned as their new leader this coming NFL season.

"We all recognize and understand that Josh is an older quarterback, he's been around for a while and the younger guys need to get the lion's share," said Hue Jackson of the division of reps in training camp. The Cleveland Browns head coach added, "I don't think Josh needs to take a ton of reps. ... Today worked out that way, tomorrow may be different. It's just how it goes sometimes."

While these comments did not solidify the belief that Josh McCown is the definite starter for the Cleveland Browns, the head coach clarified that the position is not yet in the bag for Robert Griffin III. That is, the competition for the starting quarterback role is very much open on the roster. Moreover, Jackson noted the experience of McCown - a factor that could play to his advantage this offseason.

As for Josh McCown, the veteran star remains optimistic over the possibility of becoming the starting quarterback. While some fans of the Cleveland Browns feel that the entry of RG3 in the group automatically shoves the older star in the background, others believe that his experience will come in handy in crucial games. Moreover, McCown earned the respect of a lot of Cleveland Browns supporters when he stepped up to focus their team on the games instead of the drama brought by the Johnny Manziel era.
