The Dallas Cowboys are looking for veteran NFL stars to serve as a backup quarterback in case a Tony Romo injury once again sidelines their leader next season. With limited free agency options, which reportedly include Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel, the Dez Bryant squad is said to be looking into an NFL trade to find the right guy. Reports indicate that the Dallas Cowboys are eyeing a Geno Smith trade to accomplish this goal.

The New York Jets successfully ended a contract stalemate with Ryan Fitzpatrick this offseason. With the entry of Fitzpatrick into the roster once again, the NFL team made clear that Geno Smith will be taking the back seat. That is, the New York Jets' starting quarterback will be none other than Ryan Fitzpatrick - an announcement that understandably frustrated the younger star.

Hence, it comes as no surprise that Geno Smith is open to negotiations regarding his NFL career. Rumros are rife that the New York Jets star is looking into other options even before he hits free agency. With the need for a good quarterback in the Dallas Cowboys roster, it looks like Tony Romo might have found a reliable backup.

"It's no disrespect to anyone, but I'm auditioning for this team and 31 other teams in the NFL," shared Geno Smith following the announcement of the New York Jets that Ryan Fitzpatrick remains the starting quarterback. He added, "The way you handle all of this says a lot about your character. I've got little kids back home (in South Florida) seeing how I react. Everyone will watch to see how I react. I'm not going to allow this situation -- because it's not the worst situation I've been in -- to deter me from my ultimate goal."

Prior to the breakout season of Ryan Fitzpatrick, the New York Jets had Geno Smith as their starter. However, an off-field issue forced the NFL team to sideline the younger quarterback and take a chance at Fitzpatrick. Since then, the New York Jets have favored the older star over Geno Smith.

"I'm not disappointed. I'm kind of pissed off, but it's not a detrimental thing," Smith further stated regarding the situation. He added, "It's not something where I'm pissed off at anyone, because we all want to be in there. ... This just adds fuel to the fire, but not in a negative way."

At this point, the Dallas Cowboys could not assure Geno Smith a starting role right away. However, Tony Romo injuries and other health issues could play to the advantage of the New York Jets star if he gets in the Jerry Jones squad. Moreover, the age of Tony Romo should be taken into consideration. While no official confirmation has been given by any of the parties concerned, fans believe that Geno Smith will have higher chances of showing off his skills with the Dallas Cowboys than in the Ryan Fitzpatrick team.
