The Dallas Cowboys have been looking into ways to boost their roster following their failed Super Bowl run last NFL season. With the departure of former Carolina Panthers star Greg Hardy and the re-injury of Tony Romo, the Dez Bryant squad is in dire need of a reliable set of players who can carry the team next season. It appears, however, that the plans of Jerry Jones have been foiled. Neither Joey Bosa nor Paxton Lynch landed on the Dallas Cowboys roster, and the stars he signed remain to be proven fit as members of the Tony Romo squad.

Initially, the Dallas Cowboys were expected to land Joey Bosa. However, the San Diego Chargers beat them to it and now they are without a replacement for the troubled Greg Hardy. Apart from still having the defensive end wide open, the Dallas Cowboys are still struggling to fill in a potential replacement for Romo. Despite the signing of Dak Prescott, the NFL team is still reportedly seeking trade partners to sign the players they originally wanted.

"When I look back on my life, I overpaid for my big successes every time," shared Jerry Jones after losing Paxton Lynch to the Denver Broncos in the NFL draft 2016. The Dallas Cowboys owner added, "And when I tried to get a bargain, get it a little cheaper or get a better deal on it, I ended up usually either getting it and not happy I got it. Or missing it. And I probably should have overpaid here."

Lynch was drafted by the Denver Broncos following the deal struck between the Peyton Manning team and the Seattle Seahawks. Instead of serving as backup for Russell Wilson in the Kam Chancellor squad, the NFL rookie will now compete against Mark Sanchez in the Super Bowl 50 champions' team. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys are stuck with Dak Prescott as the backup for the injury-prone Tony Romo.

While the rookie is promising, it appears that the Dallas Cowboys are cautious of how much they want to rely on him. In his comments about Prescott, Jason Garrett has been careful not to oversell the rookie. However, the Dallas Cowboys head coach also praised the Mississippi State University star in terms of his leadership and size.

"If you ask a lot of people there; coaches, players, he is just one of those guys that they feel has such great intangible qualities," said Garrett of Prescott. He added, "A great leader; positively impacts everybody there; has played big in big games and has done a lot of really good things on the field. Physically, he is big; he is strong. He can throw it; he can run. He is a very experienced player."

Garrett noted, however, that Prescott has yet to learn considering his age and inexperience in the professional football league. While Jones still has a hang up on Lynch, it looks like he is slowly coming to terms with his new rookie quarterback. He shared of Prescott, "I'm not saying Romo is going to be having midnight sessions with [Prescott], but I think [Aaron] Rodgers benefitted from being around [Brett] Favre. He saw things in Favre's game that could complement his game, and this is what motivated me to go ahead and get somebody on campus. He can learn a lot from Romo through osmosis."

Given the nature of Jerry Jones and his desire to fill the Dallas Cowboys roster with players, he feels a kinship with, fans wonder whether or not an NFL trade will see Joey Bosa move out of the San Diego Chargers and get in the Tony Romo team. What about Dak Prescott? Will he measure up to the expectations set for Paxton Lynch? Or will he prove to be a subpar substitute to the Denver Broncos rookie?
