Following Ameer Abdullah's injury last Sunday, it seems the Detroit Lions have considered re-signing Joique Bell to be their new running back. According to reports, the Lions have recently invited Bell to work out with the team several month after he was released.

Abdullah sprained his foot during the Lions' Week 2 game against the Tennessee Titans. Before he was taken out of the game, Abdullah was able to run the ball for six times for 38 yards. However, during the second quarter, the running back injured his foot and returned to the locker room, leaving Dwayne Washington and Theo Riddick to finish the game without him.

It is not yet clear if Abdullah will be able to rejoin the Lions as they enter Week 3. But, as a precaution, it seems the Detroit franchise is looking to bring back another player to take his place, even for just a couple of games.

According to reports, Bell started working out with the Lions earlier this week. He first joined the team for the 2012 season and during that year, he appeared in all of the team's 16 games. He was released by Detroit in February of this year.

With the Lions potentially missing one of their running backs as they enter Week 3, Bell could serve as a very promising reliever to Abdullah. Aside from adding depth to the roster by joining Riddick, Washington and Zach Zenner, another benefit that the Lions would get from re-signing Bell is that he already knows how to run the team's offense. In addition, he is currently one of the best running back available in the market.

During his long-time stint in Detroit, Bell was a very active player. Because of this, the Lions will have no problems bringing him in at such short notice.
Given the fact that the team is still unsure how long it will take for Abdullah to fully recover, adding a veteran running back to the roster would be a very smart move for the team. If he exceeds the team's expectations, Bell could even serve as one of the Lions' main running backs.
